GROWTH // MAIRANGI BAY ARTS CENTRE 25TH CELEBRATION // 2016
This exhibition explores the concept of Growth. Celebrating the Mairangi Bay Art Centres 25th anniversary. In curating and creating a social practice artwork that renders growth in relationship to our environment, community, youth ideas and aspirations. Hosting workshops with children and the members of the Marangi bay Art Centre we have explored what it means to evoke and be informed by our local surroundings, applying contemporary arts platforms such as social practice, public engagement and didactic practice to convey the Growth process.
The children created components that speak to the upward growth of plants and the growth and diversity of the local community. The works source natural, recycled and found objects to articulate whats it means to be coexisting with the world around us The exhibition is loosely centred around the concept of rangatiratanga that is; that we are in charge of our land, our resources and our aspirations.
