LUCAS ARTS RESIDENCY // MONTALVO ARTS CENTRE // CALIFORNIA // USA // 2013
Lucas Artists Residency Program //LAP// is designed to offer artists from a range of disciplines an environment conducive to individuals and collaborative creative practice. Seeking to stimulate an energetic exchange of ideas between culturally diverse Fellows and across varied artistic fields and scholarly disciplines, the residency has earned international recognition as a model of curatorial practice supporting the development of new and challenging contemporary work. The LAP is situated on the grounds of Montalvo Arts Center – a multidisciplinary centre for the arts located in Saratoga, California, in the Santa Cruz foothills. Montalvo is a unique mix of the historic and contemporary and features a Mediterranean-inspired Villa built in 1912, Project Space Gallery, Carriage House Theatre, Lilian Fontaine Garden Theatre, and Creekside Studio, which, alongside the Arts Centre’s diverse and expansive gardens and grounds, offer residents numerous opportunities for engagement and inspiration.
The Come Healing exhibition is presented as part of Flourish: Artists Explore Wellbeing, a multi-disciplinary programming initiative organised by the Lucas Artists Residency Program in collaboration with Montalvo’s Education Department. Through exhibitions, conversations, performances, and workshops join us as we explore the questions: how can we live meaningful, happy and healthy lives? How can we flourish?
