FLY ME UP TO WHERE YOU ARE // NEW ZEALAND ARTS FESTIVAL // 2016
Fly Me Up To Where You Are 2016 is a columniation of a 4 year project started in Auckland in 2012. The project saw the previous iterations of the work come together as one, gathering 15,000 flags and raising them as one social and political statement. The different cities can be identified by individual colour ways and a white flag, which were designed by a senior school students to represent the cities identity reflected in the aspirations of the community’s youth. Here Fly Me Up To Where You Are provides a platform for the voice of the community to be seen and heard as a collective, with importance placed on the role of creativity to process concerns, hopes, dreams and ideas as an arts therapeutic process. Fly Me Up To Where You Are sits on the periphery of community service, social work with a large scale fine art installation outcome to give rise to conscious development around how we address our own backyard issues and how we value the voice of our youth.
